Ferriday girls coach Lisa Abron was hoping to send a message that her team would be a force in District 2-2A this season.

Mission accomplished.

Ferriday upset Rayville 70-48 Tuesday in Ferriday, outscoring the Lady Hornets 34-21 in the first half.

"We have been in a funk in our last few games and really needed this," Abron said. "Our girls were kind of intimidated when Rayville first walked out because of how big they were, but they did a great job of boxing out and running the fast break, doing a good job on outlet passes. This is a big boost for us. The girls really stepped up."

T'Keyah Fletcher led the Lady Trojans with 23 points, while Chante Poole and added 14. Keatrice Brown and Jasmine Butler netted 12 points each.

Rayville's boys held off a determined Ferriday boys team, beating the Trojans 64-62.

Billy Green led Rayville with 28 points, while LaQuinten Lawson added 18.

Ferriday plays at Madison Friday and will be competing in the Rayville Shootout Tuesday.

Ferriday's girls will face Delhi at 5 p.m., while the Ferriday boys will meet Rayville at 7:30 p.m..

Ferridasy plays at Tensas on December 28 before competing in the Sicily Island Tournament the final week of the year.
