Vidalia, Ferriday split pair
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Vidalia High's boys defeated Ferriday 77-45, while Ferriday's girls cruised past Vidalia 45-9 Friday in Ferriday.

Ferriday High was scheduled to hold its tournament last week, but because of conflicts the tournament was cancelled and Ferriday and Vidalia played Friday.

The Lady Trojans led Vidalia 10-2 after one period and blanked the Lady Vikings 15-0 in the second period.

Chante Poole led Ferriday with 13 points, while Jasmine Butler added 12. Christina Moore led Vidalia with five points.

"We wanted to focus on our press," said Lady Trojan coach Lisa Abron. "We want to make the court shorter. Everyone got to play so that was good for getting game experience and should up us down the line. We are so small we have to count on our speed and athleticism. We're still working on getting ready for district."

In the boys contest, Vidalia led 31-8 after one period and 49-14 at halftime.

"We came out strong and were able to play a lot of people," Sanders said. "We're just trying to continue to get better each game."

Torrey Dixon led Vidalia with 28 points, while Quartrell Thomas added 10.

Ted Gullage led Ferriday with 10.

"Right now we're still looking for chemistry and trying to gain some confidence," said Ferriday boys coach Glen Henderson. "The main thing is the guys playing together. It's taking a little longer than I would have hoped for us to mature."

Vidalia hosts Natchez Friday.

Advanced tickets for the Vidalia-Natchez basketball game Friday at Vidalia High will go on sale Thursday at 9 a.m. until noon and Friday from 9 a.m. until noon.

Tickets may be purchased at the Vidalia High office with a limit of three tickets per person.

Once all tickets are sold, no more will be available at the office or gym door. Cost per ticket is $5.

Action begins at 4 p.m. with a ninth grade boys game, followed by a junior varsity boys game. Vidalia's girls will face Natchez's junior varsity team, followed by a varsity boys game between Vidalia and Natchez.

"It's a great rivalry and solid competition," Sanders said. "We know we will have to play our best ball to stay with them."
