Monterey sweeps St. Joseph

Monterey High went into the Christmas break with a pair of wins of St. Joseph in Plaucheville Thursday.

Monterey's girls defeated St. Joseph 56-41, while the Monterey boys held off the Eagles, 55-42.

In the girls contest, Monterey led 17-10 after one period of play and 35-15 at halftime.

Lady Wolves head coach Cary Shively emptied the bench in the second half.

Ellen Bairnsfather led the Lady Wolves with 21 points, while Kendall Lipsey added 16 and Rachel Pecanty 10.

Monterey's boys jumped out to a 16-5 lead and held that advantage at halftime, 32-21.

Monterey outscored St. Joseph 15-9 in the third period.

Ross Lipsey led Monterey with 16 points while than Cannon added 12.

Monterey returns to action on Jan. 5 with a game at Delhi Charter.
