Water systems throughout the area were taxed to the limit during the frigid Arctic blast over the long weekend which saw temperatures remain below freezing for three days.

"People have been running their water and there have been leaks," said Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin. Circuit riders with the Louisiana Rural Water Association checked water pressure in town and also noted that the sewer system "took in three times more water than normal during the past three days," McGlothin said Tuesday.
