CPSO rehab programs face budget cuts With belt-tightening issues facing state agencies across Louisiana, the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office is also feeling the pinch of budget cuts coming in the decrease of major grants allocated to the drug and alcohol rehabilitation of prison inmates.
"Our drug and alcohol programs have proven themselves over and over to have a cost-savings benefit to the State of Louisiana," said Sheriff Randy Maxwell, "in that inmates who participate in either the full 150-day treatment program or the 90-day revocation program have a much higher chance of becoming productive once they're released. Their chances of returning to prison -- at huge costs to the state -- are much, much lower if they have undergone these intensive counseling and rehab programs."
