Get involved in Ferriday clean-up day Parish residents who harbor concern for the town of Ferriday's appearance should participate Saturday in a designated clean-up day ahead of the town's participation in a Cleanest City Contest.
Ferriday will be judged for the Cleanest City Contest on March 30.
Ferriday Garden Club and the town partnered to spearhead efforts to clean up Ferriday, a municipality that's struggled for years in dealing with litter problems. Ferriday is not alone in battling litter. It is problem throughout Louisiana. It will remain a problem, unfortunately, until concerned citizens demand that people who litter refrain from their ignorant, misguided, self-serving behavior.
Lena Bateman of Ferriday Garden Club has served at the forefront in the club's efforts to assist the town's clean-up campaign. Bateman has done an excellent job, and she should be commended for her work.
Bateman is not alone in devoting her time to improve her community. Joining Bateman from Ferriday Garden Club in working to improve the town's image were Dianne Watson, Sherrill Sasser, Jane Vaughan, Martha Ivy and Kay Young. Like Bateman, they should be commended for their dedication in helping Ferriday become a more desirable community in which to live and work.
We would be remiss if we did not acknowledge Mayor Glen McGlothin and town employees who have worked with Ferriday Garden Club leading up to Saturday's clean-up day.
While we could never say enough in thanking Ferriday Garden Club and town employees who have worked to clean up Ferriday, the people could show appreciation by turning out Saturday to lend a helping hand. |
