Lady Wolves stumble in district

Monterey's Lady Wolves held off a late Block rally to defeat the Lady Bears 7-6 in Monterey Thursday.

Monterey scored two runs, one on an RBI triple by winning pitcher Paige Bryan to go up 7-3.

Bryan finished 2-for-3 at the plate with the three RBIs.

Karlee Woodruff tripled, while Ashley Wilson was 2-for-3 with a double.

The Lady Wolves fell to Rapides 6-4 in a District 6B contest one day earlier.

Monterey's Ellen Bairnsfather suffered a cut on her pitching hand in the contest fielding a ball at second base and had to leave the game after receiving six stitches.

Monterey fell to Oak Hill 7-0 Tuesday in a District 6B contest.

Amber Jarrell held the Lady Wolves to five hits.

Monterey had four errors as Paige Bryan struck out eighth, walked none and gave up only one earned run.

Bryan also took a line drive off her knee, but stayed in the game.

Monterey fell to Rapides by a 6-4 score.

Ashlee Wilson, Casey White, Jody Duncan and Logan Dale all singled for the Lady Wolves in the contest.

Bryan struck out eight and walked two in the contest, allowing two hits.

Monterey committed three errors in the game, while Rapides finished with two miscues.

Monterey hosts Avoyelles Charter Thursday in a district contest.

Monterey will compete in the Vidalia High Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
