Memorial services for Anna Marguerite Lockhart Brown were held Saturday, March 27th, 2010, 11 a.m. at The Good Sheperd Episcopal Church in Vidalia. Father Sam Tomlinson and Deacon Rose Kellum officiated.

Anna Marguerite Lockhart Brown was born in Shreveport, on July 24, 1920, to parents Berta Weldon and Lee Lockhart. She graduated from Centenary College in Shreveport and was active in the Methodist Church on campus including cheerleading, yearbook staff and president of her sorority.

On August 2, 1942, she married her husband of 67 years, Lieutenant Grover Cleveland Brown. Within 30 days he was sent to Europe as a pilot in the US Air Force. Mrs. Brown worked at Barksdale Air Force Base during the war and received a pilot's license herself.

In 1947, their son Cleve was born followed by Keri Lyn, Steven and Michael. The family moved frequently to include overseas tours in Japan, England and Hawaii. After receiving another degree from the University of Hawaii, Marguerite taught elementary school in Honolulu, Virginia, Tacoma and finished her career at Trinity Episcopal School in Natchez, following Maj. General Brown's retirement in 1970.

Marguerite was a gracious hostess and approached every day with courage, determination, humor and love. She was an active member of many organizations, Pilgrimage Garden Club, Natchez Art Association, Krewe of Phoenix and First Families of Mississippi to name a few.

Even after Marguerite's stroke, she continued to be a source of inspiration and love to her family and friends.

On December 28, 2010, she had the privilege of receiving the American Flag honoring her late husband, Major General Grover C. Brown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Grover and her three sons, Cleve, Steven and Michael.

She is survived by her daughter Keri; son in law, John McClellan; 13 grandchildren -- Tyler, Sarah, Katie, Olivia, Hobbs, Sims, Justin and Anna Brown, Lee, Medora, Hans and Margaux McClellan, and Joy Hunter; seven great grandchildren -- Annalynn and Ella Hunter, Baily and Eli Brown, Jacob Brown and Hayden Torres; one nephew and wife, Bill and Becky Conley of Beaumont, Texas, their children Jennifer, Macy and Jason Conley, who is currently a US Marine serving in Afghanistan; many cousins, caregivers and friends.
