Higginbotham trial on hold in Tensas Parish

The trial of former Waterproof mayor Bobby Higginbotham on malfeasance, public contract fraud and felony theft was still on hold Wednesday, April 7, after coming to an abrupt halt Thursday, April 1, when Higginbotham failed to show up in court after seeking medical treatment at a hospital.

In the meantime, the Louisiana Third Circuit Court of Appeal issued a stay order in proceedings in Tensas Parish until it can review Higginbotham's request for a continuance in his trial, a move the Sixth Judicial District Attorney's office is opposing.

"We don't think Mr. Higginbotham is entitled to a continuance, a jury has been seated, the trial is underway," said Asst. Dist. Atty. Linda Watson.
