Ferriday wins district competition in Cleanest City Contest Ferriday was named the winner of the District 5 Cleanest City Contest on Tuesday and is now preparing for statewide competition on April 27th.
"We found out we won about 5:30 last night (Tuesday) and we are thrilled," said Sherrill Sasser, president of the Ferriday Garden Club. "We are so appreciative to the town, the chamber, the civic clubs, businesses and individuals for their work in preparing for the district judging."
The Cleanest City Contest is sponsored by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation and includes eight districts statewide. Ferriday competes in District 5, which includes 15 parishes.
The town will be competing against Amite and Arcadia for the state title. Towns compete based on population.
"We will be hard at work during the next three weeks for the state contest," said Sasser.
Lena Bateman chairs the Ferriday Garden Club's Cleanest City Committee.
"Everybody did a heck of a job," said Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin. "This is something the whole town can be proud of."
Sasser says while it's important that everyone pick up litter, she says it's important, too, that "people not litter in the first place."
She said plans are already in place on what improvements need to be made in town for the state judging. |
