Hounds sweep Briarfield

Huntington took a pair of wins over Briarfield to clinch third place in District 6A Thursday in Ferriday.

Huntington won the first game 12-1 and the second game by a 16-1 score.

"We started out sluggish in the first game," said Huntington coach Matt Mason. "If I would have paid money I would have asked for a refund after three innings. But we got it going and the kids did what they had to do. This win clinched third place for us, which was what we were shooting for going into the doubleheader."

In its first at-bat, Jess Dossett drew a walk, Jared Hedrick walked with one out, Hunter Knapp grounded out to first to score Dossett and Brandon Warshaw beat out an infield grounder.

Briarfield scored one run in the second before Joseph Bonnette doubled and later scored to put the Hounds up 4-1.

Huntington used a 9-run third inning to run away with the second game.

Caleb Gillespie, Blaine Fletcher, Dossett, Holden Hill, Jared Hedrick, Knapp. Warshaw, Matthew Humphries and Roper Craft all scored in the inning.

Huntington plays at Trinity on Saturday. The District 6A Tournament, which is being hosted by Trinity, will be played at Huntington's field on April 15-16.
