Vikings named all-district The honors keep coming for the Class 3A state champion Vidalia Vikings as senior Torrey Dixon was named MVP of Class 3-3A, while seniors Gary Stewart and Quartrell Thomas were named to the first team.
Coach Robert Sanders was named Coach of the Year.
The 6-foot-3 Dixon averaged 26 points a game for the Vikings, who defeated Carroll High for the state championship on March 12.
Dixon also led the Vikings in rebounds (12.0) and blocked shots (4.8).
Stewart and Dixon were both named to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Top 28 Team as part of the state tournament. Markel Brown of Peabody was named MVP. The 6-foot-4 Stewart was also named to the first team.
Stewart averaged 17 points a game, 10 assists and had 7.7 rebounds a contest.
Thomas averaged 12.5 poitns a game and 4.1 rebounds.
Named as honorable mentions were Eric Bell, Daryl Polk, Quan Riley and Louis Whitley of Vidalia.
Dixon was also named to the All-Defensive Team.
Also named to the first team were Jordan Williams of Avoyelles and Kyren Ford of Marksville.
For the girls, Vidalia's Gabrielle Wagoner was named to the second team, while sophomore Christina Moore, freshman Elizabeth Cupit and junior Skyler Marceleno were named as honorable mentions.
Wagoner, a senior, averaged 13 points and 9.0 rebounds a game. |
