Story Archives: Huntington hosting district tournament

Huntington hosting district tournament
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Huntington will face Tensas Academy in the first round of the MAIS District 6A Tournament to be held at Huntington Thursday through Saturday.

Trinity is the host team for the tournament, but because the Saints have to share Liberty Park with Cathedral and Natchez, the field at Huntington will be used for the three-day event.

Top seed Trinity faces Tallulah at 4 p.m. Thursday, followed by second-seeded Tensas against No. 3 seed Huntington.

A loser's bracket game is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by the championship game. A third game, if needed, will follow.

The top two teams of the District 6A Tournament advance to South State against the top two teams from District 7A.

Huntington will be without top pitcher Jess Dossett, who broke his collarbone in a non-baseball accident.

"I'm still deciding which way to go Thursday," Mason said. "The thing about it is that it's a new season and everybody in the tournament has a chance,"

Huntington, 6-12, fell to Trinity 15-0 in Natchez Saturday to finish 4-4 in district place and in third place.

Trinity pitcher Givonni Dent pitched a one-hit shutout, with eight of the nine outs being recorded by strikeout.

Trinity also had 11 hits in the game, with Trevor Faust, Sky Logan and Andrew Moroney hitting doubles.

Logan, Dent and Jake Winston also had multiple hits in the victory.
