Thompson's ag bills pass Senate

The Louisiana State Senate has overwhelmingly approved a series of bills authored by State Sen. Francis Thompson (D-Delhi) and aimed at promoting the development of the state's agriculture industry and improving consumer protections in state law.

Thompson, chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture and Rural Development, said the bills relate to sustainable agriculture, animal care standards, exotic animal regulation, slaughterhouse standards and more.

"What we hope to do with these measures is to establish reasonable regulations and rules that do not unnecessarily hamper the development of our state's number one industry -- agriculture -- and promote preservation of our natural resources, while at the same time providing the necessary safeguards for consumers," Thompson said.
