Story Archives: Vidalia Jamboree slated

Vidalia Jamboree slated
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Ferriday High, Block, Tensas Parish and Madison Parish have been penciled in for the Vidalia High Jamboree on August 28.

First-year Vidalia High head football coach Gary Paul Parnham was still trying to contact Delhi Charter to see if they wanted to return to the jamboree.

Last year, Ferriday High was scheduled to play in the Washington-Marion Jamboree, but asked to rejoin the Vidalia Jamboree after pulling out three years ago.

"It's just more feasible and travel-wise it's better for our fans," Davis said. "It's hard getting into good, quality jamborees nowadays."

Vidalia and Ferriday High will both be under new coaches. Dee Faircloth retired last December after serving 41 years as head coach, while Freddie Harrison left Ferriday last month after accepting the head coaching position at Washington-marion.

Parnham said if Delhi Charter returns, he may have to go to the old format of each team playing two one-quarter contests against two different opponents.

Parnham will begin his first spring practice as head coach on April 26.

The Vidalia High graduate is also tentatively scheduling an intrasquad game on May 8.

"We're going to practice 10 days and then have an intrasquad game," Parnham said. "We won't have the baseball players with us this spring, but we have about 30 eighth-graders moving up, so this will give them an opportunity to show what they can do. This will give the guys a chance to know what to expect from me and something we can carry over into summer workouts and fall practice."
