Huntington netters fall For the first time ever, Huntington's tennis team failed to advance a player or doubles team to the second day of play at the MAIS South A State Tennis Tournament at Duncan Park in Natchez Tuesday.
"This is the first time I will not be taking anybody to the state tournament," said Huntington tennis coach Emily Guida. "It's a tough way to finish. But all the kids played hard and even had some of their best outings. There is some really stiff competition. I am proud of all of the team members for playing as hard as they could possibly play."
Huntington's No. 1 boys doubles team of Cody Dye and Colby Gray lost in the second round to Newton Academy.
Huntington's Laurin Murphy also fell in the second round to Rachel Wilson of University Christian.
In No. 2 girls singles, Huntington's Paige Whittington lost in the first round to Taylor Howard of Brairfield.
In No. 1 girls doubles, Huntington's Abbey Ashmore and Allie Boothe were defeated in the first round by Tallulah.
In No. 2 girls doubles, Huntington's Hunter Marks and Natali Tarver fell to Trinity's Laura Ann Brown and Christina Givens in the first round.
The tournamet was scheduled to be completed today. |
