Monterey track team qualifies several

Monterey High School will be well represented at the Class B State Track Meet May 7 at LSU in Baton Rouge.

The Wolves and Lady Wolves placed nine participants in the top three at the Regional Track Meet at Alexandria Senior High Monday.

Sophomore Ellen Bairnsfather won the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.3 and placed third in the 400-dash at 1:06.40.

Senior Ariel Hector finished third in the discus with a throw of 85 feet, 11 inches.

Freshman Kristin Russell placed third in the 800-run with a time of 2:46.45.

The 1600-relay team of Bairnsfather, Reagan Tiffee, Logan Dale and Russell was second with a time of 4:51.60.

For the boys, senior Ethan Cannon won the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet, 8.5 inches.

Freshman Drew Brown placed second in the triple jump at 37 feet, 8.5 inches.

John McNeil placed third in the 110-hurdles with a time of 18.77.

Freshman Elliot Britt was third in the 3200-run at 11:46.23.Finishing fourth and going as alternates to state are Drew Brown, who placed fourth in the 300-hurdles at 48.62, sophomore Cole McMillan, who placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 96 feet and Logan Dale, who was fourth in the long jump at 14 feet, 5.5 inches.

Senior Chance Cooper would have easily qualified for state but had a 4 wheeler wreck this weekend and wasn't able to participate.

Cooper will be able to accompany the team.

Monterey's boys placed second in the District 6B Track Tournament, while the Lady Wolves placed third In Alexandria on April 21.

For the boys, McMillan won the discus with a throw of 103 feet, 3 inches.

Senior James Davis won the javelin with a throw of 120 feet, 3 inches.

Chance Cooper finished first in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 6 inches. Cooper finished second in the 100-dash at 11.11 and second in the 300-hurdles at 47.91.

Ethan Cannon captured the triple jump with a distance of 37 feet, 6 inches.

Drew Brown won the 300-hurdles at 47.82 and was second in the triple jump at 34 feet.

Elliot Britt won the 3200-run at 11:55.

Cannon placed third in the long jump with a jump of 18 feet, 11 inches.

McMillin finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 8 inches.

Eighth-grader Marshall Lipsey placed fourth in the 1600-run at 6:13.

McNeil was second in the 110-hurdles at 19.05, while Wright was fourth at 20.05.

Sophomore Reed Burley was fourth in the 3200-run at 13:43.

The 400-relay team of Cannon, John McNeil, Brett Wright and Kile Lipsey placed fourth with a time of 50,18.

The 800-relay team of Jacob Perry, Terrance Bowman, James Davis and Brett Wright was fourth, while the 1600-relay team of Clay Burley, Rory Hector, Garrett Abshire and Yankee Duncan placed third.

For the girls, Bairnsfather won the 100-meter dash with a time of 35.0 and finished first in the 400-meters at 1:08.52. 

Kristin Russell won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:46.00. 

Freshman Kaley Baker won the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:59.2.

Hector finished second in the shot put with a throw of 27 feet, 6 inches, second in the discus with a throw of 79 feet, 8 inches and fourth in the javelin with a throw of 69 feet 8 inches.  

Junior Logan Dale won the long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 9.75 and captured the triple jump with a distance of 29 feet, 7 inches. She placed third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 58.18.

Freshman Jessica McNeil finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 22.67 and as third in the high jump at 3 feet, 10 inches.

The 1600-relay team of Bairnsfather, Reagan Tiffee, Logan Dale, and Kristin Russell won their event in a time of 4:58.33.

The 400-meter relay team of Ashley Coco, Rachell Seabolt, Jadah Scroggins, and Blake Morace finished fourth at 1:06.67
