An August 23 trial date was set by Judge Leo Boothe last week for Michael Kelly Stevens in the murder of a Vidalia man.

Stevens, 41, is accused in the October 2009 murder of Michael Welch, 52, of Vidalia. Stevens was indicted by a parish Grand Jury on a charge of first degree murder in Welch's death

The judge set May 26 as the date for a trial of motions and status hearing, while pretrial was slated for June 30.
