Farmers in 'bad situation'

Without a rain soon, "farmers face a bad situation," County Agent Glen Daniels said this week.

While being spared of "bad weather the past two weeks," which caused flooding and wind damage in many areas in the South, Daniels said the downside locally is that the parish received little rain -- from two-tenths to four-tenths over the weekend.

"We face some critical issues with the weather," said Daniels. "We had a wet, early spring that delayed planting. Now we've used up that moisture and the optimal time for planting soybeans and cotton is at hand."
