Natchez firm named parish engineer
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Concordia Parish Police Jury named a Natchez firm as parish engineer Monday night, replacing Bryant Hammett & Associates of Ferriday, which had held the post for the past 26 years.

The Jury hired Jordan, Kaiser & Sessions on a 6-2 vote after a four-member committee recommended the firm.

Hammett said he was saddened by the decision after more than two and one-half decades of working with the parish, but planned to "move forward, not backward."

He said the decision was the Jury's.

"If you feel like hiring an out-of-state firm is best for the parish, I am not here to whine and complain about it," Hammett said. "It's been a good run."

Hayden Kaiser of the Natchez firm thanked the Jury "for the opportunity" and pledged to "work hard with you." He passed out cards and shook the hand of each juror before the meeting ended.

Before the vote, juror Randy Temple explained that the committee, which also included Jimmy Jernigan, Whest Shirley and Jury President Melvin Ferrington, used a rating system for engineering services in making its recommendation. He said all four firms "rated about the same."
