Relay proceeds may exceed $200,000 The Miss-Lou Relay for Life expects to go over $200,000 mark from its recent benefit Saturday on the Vidalia Riverfront.
The relay has raised $196,714.61, but is still waiting on money from a couple of sponsors and teams.
The event is one of the Mid-South's biggest Relay for Life events and has been named in the top 25 for the Mid-South Division and in the top 10 for the nation per population bracket.
More than $200,000 has been raised for the American Cancer Society the past two years.
"I just want to thank everyone who participated and donated," said Miss-Lou Relay for Life Chairman Bridgid Martin. "It's all about the survivors and we're excited with how successful it was."
Martin said she is meeting with Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland Thursday to discuss a possible different site for next year.
"We've had a few suggestions about moving the site and Mayor Copeland has some plans in the works that will help us to find a place bigger and better as we continue to grow," Martin said.
Awards presented at the Relay included Team Metro for Best Tent Site. CCA finished second, followed by Concordia Bank.
Natchez Educators raised the most money at $17,869.49, followed by The Markets at $15,058.79 and Britton & Koontz at $11,502.62 .
Patsy Galler raised the most money at $1,730, followed by Evelyn Smith at $1,454,96 and Thelma Newsome at $720.
Best Banner went to Concordia Bank, with Delta Bank in second place and Britton & Koontz in third place.
Concordia Bank won the Making the Connection Award.
The Best Baton Award went to Cliff Temple/Parkway, with Concordia Bank in second place and CCA in third place.
Best T-Shirt was Sta-Home, followed by Our Lady of Lourdes and Adams County Nursing.
The Best Decorated Luminary Bag was Team Survivor in first place, followed by Team Metro and Team Survivor.
Team Metro was voted Best Snack, followed by Walmart Natchez and Britton & Koontz .
Team DHS won Best Spirit, followed by Mt Carmel Baptist and Natchez Regional.
Mount Carmel had the most laps at 714, while Raymond Riley had most laps for an individual with 105.
The Turtle Award went to Highland Baptist's Chris Farmer with 25.
