Believing In God – Depending On God's Strength (B.I.G. D.O.G.S.) held a basketball camp at Ferriday Florida Street Gym.

A.D. Jenkins, the founder and president of B.I.G. D.O.G.S., is a graduate of Waterproof High and earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems. He also serves as a School Board Trustee in Irving, TX.

Jenkin's assistant is Damon Hodge is a former Dallas Cowboys football player and manager of a very large fitness center in Texas.

Jenkins said B.I.G. D.O.G.S. serves as a vehicle to empower disenfranchised youth with the resources and tools to achieve academic success in the areas of math and reading, as well as a provide creative and constructive outlet through our athletic programs that foster team building, leadership, positive competition, and development of athletic skills.

"One of my life missions is to give by reaching back to provide support and hope for those who long for a positive way out," Jenkins said. "This is the same thing I wish could have been in place while I was growing up in Waterproof. Therefore, we use the free basketball camps as a magnet to lure youth in and while teaching them fundamentals of the a sport, we also interject life skills and the importance education. We chose Ferriday because it was very close to home and Coach Bates was willing to open the gym doors to allow us to work with the youth."

Jenkins said the camp was very successful as the kids experienced new basketball drills, fellowshipped during lunch, played a scrimmage game and listened in on a speech on "Never Giving Up."

"There were two student-athletes (Marquis Brown and Trey Hall) that were chosen to come to Irving, Texas for the summer to play on a select basketball team as well as work on academics, social, intellectual, cultural and service skills," Jenkins said. "We look forward to the partnership we have established with Ferriday. We will be back soon."
