Monterey High's track team had two participants finish in the top five of the Class B State Track Meet at LSU Friday, while three others finished in the top eight.

"I am very proud of our team," said Monterey coach Ashley Avery. "Almost all of them ran their best times. The competition was tough, but it was State, so that is to be expected."

Ariel Hector placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 90 feet, 4 inches.

Ellen Bairnsfather placed sixth in the 400-meter dash at 1:04.81 and was seventh in the 100-meter dash at 13.21.

Kristin Russell was sixth in the 3000-meter run at 2:41.39.

John McNeil placed eighth in the 110-hurdles at 19.32.

Drew Brown placed sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 35 feet, 9.5 inches.

Bairnsfather, Russell, Logan Dale and Reagan Tiffee were eighth in the 1600-meter relay at 4:42.45.
