Philemon Smith Funeral services for Mr. Philemon Chew Smith, 84, of St. Joseph were held at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church today, Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Ray Owens officiating.
Interment followed at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Mr. Smith was born September 3, 1925, in St. Joseph and passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary.
He was a resident of St. Joseph, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of St. Joseph. Mr. Smith recieved his Masters Degree in Agriculture from LSU in 1953, he worked until he retired as an inspector with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture. Very much an outdoorsman, he enjoyed being around his home, riding his four wheeler and watching his deer.
Mr. Smith was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps proudly serving his country during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick Grayson and Carolyn Daniels Smith; first wife, Bernice Maddox Smith; daughter, Virginia Smith Stuckey; and a sister, Nancey Smith McLeroy.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Smith of St. Joseph; son, Phil G. Smith and wife Anna of Baker; stepson, Billy Morrell and wife Jerri of Baton Rouge; stepson, Mickey Morrell and wife Kay of San Diego, Calif.; grandson, Jonathon Stuckey of Baton Rouge; and nephews, Randy McLeroy of Center, Texas and Fred McLeroy of Austin, Texas.
Pallbearers were James Arceneaux, Michael Arceneaux, Jordan Babin, Stacy Hutto, James Windbourne and Thad Waters. |
