Story Archives: Sylve commits to Alabama

Sylve commits to Alabama
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Former Vidalia High All-State running back Eddie Ray Jackson admitted he was a bit surprised by his son, Bradley Sylve's announcement that he committed to Alabama.

"I didn't read between the lines," Jackson said. "Bradley told me he liked his visit at Alabama. It came down to LSU and Alabama and I thought he was going to LSU

Sylve is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound wide receiver who will be a senior at South Plaquemines. He runs a 4.3 in the 40s.

Jackson played football at Southern Mississippi after a stellar career at Vidalia High.

"The funny thing about it is that Dr. (George) Moss in Natchez used to tell me all the time that I needed to go to Alabama," Jackson said. "I wish he were still alive so I could tell him my son was going there."

Jackson said Sylve was impressed with the atmosphere and the coaching staff at Alabama.

"Coach (Nick) Saban impressed his mom on their visit letting them now it would be all business," Jackson said.

Sylve broke his arm in spring training at South Plaquemines, tearing some tendons in his elbow and will be unable to run track for almost three months, Jackson said.

"He got a helmet right on his elbow," Jackson said. "He had surgery yesterday (Monday) but he'll be ready to go once football season gets here."
