Group seeks charter school in Ferriday

The Concordia Parish School Board will determine within 60 days whether to accept or reject a proposal to establish a Type 1 charter school in Ferriday, but first has to ascertain just what the guidelines are.

Ultimate authority, however, may rest in the hands of the federal government.

"Because Concordia is under a desegregation order, permission to open would ultimately have to be granted by the U.S. Department of Justice," said Paul Nelson, the School Board's Director of Academic Affairs.
