Although the turn-out for the Memorial Day March was lower than previous years, the high temperature didn't deter some Miss-Lou residents from coming out to honor American veterans.

Laura Jackson, chairwoman of the Memorial Day Committee since 2008, said about 550 area residents and visitors participated in this year's event, about 500 people fewer than previous programs.

One of several programs held in the region over the holiday weekend, this event is the oldest Memorial Day celebration locally, dating back to the 19th Century.
