Vidalia competing in hoop tourneys

Vidalia High's basketball team went 1-1 at the Caldwell Basketball Camp last month and will compete in the Louisiana Tech Camp this weekend.

Vidalia fell to Caldwell in its first game at the Caldwell Tournament before defeating Grant.

The Vikings lost six seniors from their state championship team of last year.

"The guys came out with the jitters, but played better against Grant," said Vidalia coach Robert Sanders. "We have some work to do, but I think we will be competitive."

Jamon Duson, Alvin Bell and D.J. Polk led the Vikings in scoring in the Caldwell Tournament.

Vidalia faces Byrd High, Airline High School, Grambling, Pickering and Peabody in the Louisiana Tech camp.

"They must have thought we had the same team coming back from last year," Sanders said.

Ferriday's girls will compete in with Trinity, Natchez, Jefferson County, Franklin County and South Pike in a Southwest Mississippi Summer League.

On June 21, Jefferson County will host two games in Fayette as Natchez faces South Pike at 5 p.m., followed by Ferriday against Jefferson County.

On June 24, three games will be played in Ferriday High.

Natchez will meet Franklin County at 5 p.m., followed by Ferriday against Trinity at 6 p.m. and Ferriday against Franklin County at 7 p.m.

Ferriday will face South Pike in Natchez at 5 p.m., followed by Jerferson County against Trinity and Natchez versus Ferriday at 7 p.m.

On July 12, Ferriday meets Amite at Trinity at 5 p.m., followed by Natchez versus Trinity.

There will also be games on July 1 at Franklin County High in Meadville, but that schedule has not been finalized.

"We will have some top-notch competition that should help us get ready for next season," said Ferriday coach Lisa Abron.
