Book being written on Ferriday cousins
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Businessman Jim Davis of Dallas spent last week in Ferriday talking with friends and relatives of famous cousins of Jerry Lee Lewis, Mickey Gilley and Jimmy Swaggart for a book he is writing about the performers.

"This is a labor of love for me because I love all three of these guys," Davis said. "In 1935, the stars aligned over Ferriday, Louisiana. Over the 1935 and early 1936, three cousins were born that would change the course of 20th-century music and culture."

Davis, who is for Milliman Inc., of Dallas said he has not come up with a title for the book as of yet.

"I have several ideas for the title already but have not decided which one will best summarize the story to story to be told," he said. "It will depend largely on the potential directions this effort may take as it is generating a lot of interest in different circles."

Davis said he grew up in a small town not unlike Ferriday in many ways.

"I am a huge fan of good piano-playing and have a background in full-gospel, charismatic Christianity," he said. "Jerry, Jimmy, and Mickey are truly icons in their respective fields. They have collectively faced their share of success and disappointment, but their music remains unflinching in its ability to reach out and touch the listener. This project is a thrill for me personally because I really love these guys."
