Duncan earns All-American honor

LSU freshman Kimberlyn Duncan earned All-American honors at the 2010 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships as part of the Lady Tiger 4x100-meter relay team.

Duncan is the daughter of Ferriday natives Antonne Duncan Jr. and Schrylean Duncan.

"Kimberlyn never wanted to be a basketball player like my wife (Maxine)," Antonne Duncan Sr., who works for the Town of Ferriday, said of his granddaughter. "She loves to run."

Antonne Duncan Jr., served in the Navy and they moved to Houston about 10 years ago.

"I wouldn't be surprised to see Kimberlyn in the Olympics one day," Antonne Sr., said. "She's rated pretty high. And her little sister (Kiersten), who is about two years younger than Kimberlyn, is just as fast as she is."

The Lady Tigers wasted no time in putting eight points on the board in the very first event on the track on the final day of competition at this year's NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a national runner-up performance in the final of the 4x100-meter relay.Duncan's teammates on the relay team were senior Samantha Henry, freshman Takeia Pinckney and junior Kenyanna Wilson as they combined for a 43.72 time to finish second only to the foursome from Texas A&M (42.82).

Duncan also finished 13th in the 200-meter dash in her NCAA debut with a time of 23.58.

In high school, Duncan captured the Region 2-5A championship in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 23.46 seconds during her senior season at Cypress Springs High School.

Her time ranked No. 3 among high school sprinters during the 2009 outdoor season.

Duncan went on to win the Texas Class 5A state title in the 200 meters with a time of 23.59 in the final at the 2009 University Interscholastic League State Championships held at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Duncan recorded a then personal best of 24.33 in the 200 meters to finish fourth in the event in the young women's age group at the 2008 AAU Junior Olympics.

Duncan competed in the 200 meters and 4x100-meter relay at the 2007 AAU Junior Olympic Championships in Knoxville, Tenn.

She successfully defended her district title in the 200 meters as a junior in 2008.

The LSU men also finished in sixth place in the NCAA Championships.

Texas A&M swept NCAA Outdoor team titles for the second-straight year as the women scored 72 points and the men scored 55 points.

With their performance this weekend, the Tigers and Lady Tigers put the finishing touches on yet another successful campaign that saw the women finish in third place and the men finish in fourth place at the NCAA Indoor Championships earlier this season.

The Lady Tigers were also crowned the team champion with the men finishing runner-up at the SEC Outdoor Championships last month.
