Vidalia goes 3-3-1 at tournament

Vidalia High went 3-3-1 at the Louisiana Tech in Ruston this past weekend.

Vidalia defeated Ruston, Captain Shreve and Pickering. The Vikings lost by four points to Byrd and had a close loss to Airline.

"We didn't manage the clock well against Byrd," said Vidalia coach Robert Sanders.

The Grambling game ended in a tie when it was discovered the Vikings were not awarded two points after a basket.

"We could have easily have been 6-1," Sanders said. "Peabody is just too good. But the other coaches were impressed with Alvin (Bell) and D.J. (Polk). Our biggest problem is our guard play. We miss that tall guard. We also don't have any depth in the post. After Alvin and D.J. go out we don't have anyone with experience."

Vidalia, which is the defending Class 3A state champion, will compete in the Northwestern State Basketball Camp in Natchitoches this weekend.

Vidalia faces Loyola at 11:45 a.m. Friday before taking on North DeSoto at 2:45 p.m.

On Saturday, Vidalia faces Berwick at 8:30 a.m. before taking on Byrd at 11:30 a.m. Vidalia meets Ruston at 3 p.m.
