Funeral services for Nelson Paul Bourque, 59, of Monterey were held at Eva Church Of God Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at 10 a.m. with Bro. Kevin Simms and Bro. Dennis Baker officiating.

Interment followed at Lone Pine Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home.

Nelson Bourque was born on December 19, 1950, in Lafayette and passed away Saturday, June 12, 2010, at his residence in Monterey.

He was a musician, and stamp collector/dealer. He served many years as a counselor for disabled veterans. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine. He received many military honors such as the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (with 1 Bronze star), Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm & Frame, Purple Heart Medal, and Rifle Sharpshooter Badge.

Mr. Bourque loved life. He always had a way of finding the good in any situation. He was funloving and had a very good character. He will be greatly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mabrey Bourque; and mother, Eva Elta Bourque.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Bourque of Monterey; one brother, David Bourque and wife Mary, of Erath; three stepdaughters, Dana Morace of Monterey, Denise Frye of Vidalia, and Dosey Powell and husband Chris, of Jonesville; four adopted sons, David, Danny, Darrell, and Bobby Bourque, all of Florida; two aunts, Mary Bourque and Nita Berard; one uncle, Luke Bourque; two granddaughters, Amber and Ashley Frye of Vidalia; and two grandsons, Charlie and Chase Powell of Jonesville.

Pallbearers were Rocky Morace, Ronnie Duncan, Kirk Ford, Darrell Brigman, Caleb Bass, Christopher Rouse, Phuc Bui, and Scottie Benoit.

Honorary pallbearers were David Morace, Charles Wascom, Scott Frye, and John Whitehead.
