Lady Trojans compete in tourneys

Ferriday High's girls split a pair of games at their own tournament Thursday at Ferriday.

The tournament was part of a Southwest Mississippi Tournament League tht was formed this summer.

Ferriday defeated Natchez High by four points before falling to Franklin County by three points.

"I was pleased with our play," said Lady Trojan coach Lisa Abron. "All the games were close and we had a great turnout. It was a good experience for our girls. Franklin County has some big girls, but I was real impressed with the way Chante (Poole) handled the ball against their double-and triple-team. She did a phenomenal job."

On Monday, Ferriday faced Jefferson County at Natchez High, falling by a slim margin to the Lady Tigers.

"We played OK," Abron said. "Jefferson County had already played a game, so they were warmed up. Right now it's really not about winning or losing, but more about the girls getting used to be around one another, having fun and getting adjusted. This has been good for them. The pressure part will come later."

Trinity Episcopal hosts the final Southwest Mississippi Tournament Friday. It will be played at Natchez High.

Ferriday will face Trinity at 4 p.m. in its only contest of the tournament.

"It was supposed to be at a later date, but everyone is kind of worn out, so we're going to wrap it up Friday," Abron said.
