Dixie Youth teams compete

The bats have been quieter than expected, but the Concordia 12-year-old All-Stars have relied on solid pitching, defense and timely hits to jump out to a 2-0 start in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 5 Sub-District Tournament being held at Vidalia.

Vidalia was scheduled to play Winnsboro Tuesday night for the championship.

Both teams automatically advance to the district tournament to be played in Mangham beginning Saturday.

"We haven't put everything together, but we're winning," said Concordia coach Whest Shirley. "We'll get a strikeout, groundout, groundout and then somebody will hit a home run."

Concordia defeated South Franklin, 7-1 Monday night.

Kade Passman struck out 14 batters and allowed one hit over six innings to get the win.

Passman got all the runs he needed on home runs by Jake Cooper and Jake Barlow.

Cooper led the Concordia offense with two singles.

On Saturday. Concordia started off the tournament with a 12-2 win over Catahoula.

Cole Cangemi paced the Concordia offense with two home runs.

Chandler Gayson also homered.

Catahoula only managed three hits in the game with two coming from Chris Holmes and one from Junior Harbor who also added a walk.

The Concordia 11-year-old All-Stars went 2-2 in their tournament in Monroe.

Members of the 12-year-old team are Tyler Cothern, Chandler Grayson, Cole Cangemi, Kade Passman, Ryne Richard, Jake Cooper, Jake Barlow, Cole Hornsby, Pate Shirley, Drake Bergeron, Jayden Ivey, and Korey Henson.

Coaches are Whest Shirley, Lane Barlow, and Adam Probst.

The Concordia Parish 11-year-old All-Star team consists of Marty Blaney, Juju Cooper, Za Davis, Cole Gatlin, Robert Hargraves, Christopher Linder, Dylan Maynard, Braden Passenger, Carson Curtis, Ron Williams and Matthew Womack.

Coaches are David Womack, Ron Williams and Sharon Womack.

Results for the 10-year-olds are on page 2B.

Members of the 10-year-old all-star team are Trey Buckles, Casey Cupit, J.R. Davis, Tiger Dishta, Christian Fort, Chase Gillespie, Landon Havard, Cameron King, Lee Lancaster, Ried Richard, Cameron Rodgers and Jerrius Scott.

Coaches are George Cupit, Jamie Lancaster and John Gillespie.

Members of the 9-year-old all-star team are Jacob Beard, Tanner Jenkins, Freddie Mango, Nick Melton, Trenton Miller, Dawson Parker, Caden Poole, Trey Poole, J'Veion Scott, Doodie Smith, Drake Smith and Dre' Taylor.

Coaches are Rusty Smith, Jason Beard, Randi Poole and Valerie Roach.

No information was available on those games.

The Pitching Machine All-Stars will have their sub-district tournament in Jonesville. The district tournament will be in Rayville.

Members of the Pitching Machine All-Stars are Hayden Arcemont, Brandon Bozeman, Cade Eidt, Peyton Fort, Trey Gill, Fisher Hall, Glaston Magee, Landon Slover, Charlie Tarver, Quaveon Turner, Brett Walsworth and Marcus Wilkerson.

Coaches are Jeannie Beach, Seth Eidt, Sebastian Turner and Eddie Beach.

Two Concordia Parish Dixie Youth are sub-district champs after winning games Tuesday night.

The Concordia Parish 12-year-old stars blanked Winnsboro, 7-0 to finish unbeaten in the tournament.

"That was a good one to end the tournament on," said Concordia manager Whest Shirley. "Winnsboro is definitely a good team and I wouldn't be surprised to be facing them again in district. We played better last night, but we still need to do a better job of hitting the ball."

The 12-year-old all-stars advance to the district tournament in Mangham beginning Saturday. The 12-year-olds will play at 3 p.m.

Cole Cangemi held Winnsboro to one hit to help Concordia finish unbeaten in the tournament.

Chandler Grayson hit a 3-run home run, his second home run of the tournament.

Singles by Kade Passman and Grayson in the first inning led to two runs.

Passman delivered a bases-loaded single in the fourth inning.

Cangemi socred on a wild pitch in the fifth inning for Concordia's final run.

The Concordia Parish 10-year olds defeated South Franklin 13-4 in Winnsboro to finish unbeaten in their tournament.

The contest did not start until close to 10 p.m. because of rain.

They will play in Osterland in the district tournament beginning Saturday.

The 10-year-olds all-stars' first game will be Saturday at 1 p.m.

Jarius Scott led Concordia with four hits, including a double and triple.

Landon Havard doubled and singled twice.

Cameron King doubled and singled.

Christian Fort, Cameron Rodgers, Trey Buckles, JR Davis and Chase Gillespie each singled.

Lee Lancaster was hit by a pitch and walked three times.

Davis started for Concordia before Lancaster entered the game in the second inning and struck out seven batters.

"The kids played really well," said Concordia manager George Cupit. "We struggled before the weekend, but the guys were focused when they got up there and were ready to play. Our pitching was good and the hitting was great."

The Concordia 14-year-old All-Stars are 1-1 in their district tournament in Oak Grove, defeating Richland 14-4 before falling to Monroe, 21-4.

Against Richland, Dylan Smith, Josh Kenny, Hunter Frye and William Anderson had two hits each. Lee jackson, Garrett Keating, Ashton Hollins and Brock Sterling had one hit each.

Hayden Cassell, Frye and Keating had singles against Monroe.

Against Catahoula Monday Night, the Concordia team used a hit parade for a 16-4 win.

Landon Havard doubled and singled twice, while Trey Buckles and Lee Lancaster had two hits each. Casey Cupit and Cameron Rodgers both doubled. Jarius Scott, winning pitcher Reid Richard and JR Davis both singled.

Lancaster picked up the win Saturday in a 12-2 over Winnsboro. He struck out eight and allowed one hit.

Rodgers homered and singled for Concordia, while Landon Havard and Cameron King homered and singled and Cameron King homered.

Christian Fort singled twice.
