Baseball teams lose out at State

Concordia's 9-year-old and the Tri-Parish 13-year-old baseball and 14-year-old all-star teams saw their seasons come to an end at state tournament play.

In 9-year-old action, New Orleans blanked Concordia, 6-0.

Drake Smith had Concordia's only extra-base hit with a double.

New Orleans scored two runs in the top of the first inning, one each in the top of the second and third innings, and two runs in the top of the fourth.

Concordia smashed Mamou 15-4 in the second game of hte day.

Caden Poole had three hits while Dustin Parker and J'Veion Scott each had a triple as Concordia totaled 15 hits in the game.Now it's a wait-and-see scenario for the Concordia 9-year-old All-Stars to determine whether they will play today or if their season is over.

The Concordia Dixie Youth 13-year-old All-Star fell to Thibodaux 4-1 Monday in the state tournament in an elimination game.

Jadarius Anderson hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning as Concordia scored four runs before Thibodaux got to bat.

Kenneth Jordan went 3-for-3 while Christian Jenkins was 2-for-2 with a double for Concordia.

The 14-year-old All-Star team finished second at district in Oak Grove and played three games at the state tournament in Sulphur.

The 14-year-olds lost to Ponchatula 9-2 in the first game of pool play, fell to Vernon Parish 9-4 before defeating DeRidder 13-4 in their final game.

"It was a great experience and the boys represented the parish well," said Tri-Parish 14-year-old coach Jeff Britt. "It was their first time playing on turf in Ponchatula and that was kind of intimidating. The heat was unbelieveable."

The 13-year-olds lost two games during pool play at the state tournament.

In its first game of the day. Concordia led 4-1 before Minden scored five runs in the third inning.

Concordia took the lead in the top of the third inning when Jadarius Anderson walked with the bases loaded to score Tommy Poole and Kenneth Jordan delivered with a two-run single that brought in Christian Jenkins and Tyler Stockstill.

But Minden rallied in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Spencer White, Braden Morgan, Luke Griffin, and a bases-loaded walk by Caleb Jones.

Concordia scored one run in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Anderson, but the next two batters struck out to end the game.

Concordia fell to Monroe 14-5 Saturday afternoon.

Tommy Poole and Lester Wells each doubled in the second inning to help tie the score at 5-5 before Monroe broke the game open in the latter innings.
