Story Archives: Hoffpauir singles in All-Star Game

Hoffpauir singles in All-Star Game

Vidalia's Jarrett Hoffpauir was just hoping to get a hit in the 23rd Annual Triple-A All-Star Game in Allentown, Pa., on July 14.

Hoffpauir was a last-minute fill-in despite being the second-leading vote-getter for his outstanding first half with the Las Vegas 51s.

Hoffpauir was called up to the Toronto Blue Jays last month for about a week.

But when Brett Wallace was unable to play, Hoffpauir was inserted into the Pacific Coast League All-Star lineup.

Hoffpauir flew out to deep center field his first at-bat before singling in his second at-bat.

Hoffpauir walked in his third at-bat and grounded out in his final at-bat.

The International League defeated the Pacific Coast League, 2-1.

Pitching dominated the game as the two teams combined for just 10 hits.

"I was just hoping to at least get one hit and it felt good," Hoffpauir said. "It's been crazy the last month or so. I've been doing a lot of traveling. But that's part of it."

Hoffpauir said a recent trade by Toronto, acquiring shortstop Yunel Escobar and left-handed pitcher Jo-Jo Reyes from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for shortstop Alex Gonzalez and minor league players, pitcher Tim Collins and infielder Tyler Pastornicky will probably not have any effect on his future.

"Right now I'm just playing day-to-day and not worrying about anything out my control," Hoffpauir said. "If I just do my job, everything will take care of itself."

Hoffpauir had two hits against the New York Yankees in Yankee Stadium.

"That was just surreal," Hoffpauir said. "Derek Jeter spoke to me each time he came by me and patted me on back of the head once. It was a great experience."
