Concordia 12s go 2-2 at Regional

The Concordia 12-year-old All-Stars played four games at the Dixie Youth 12-year-old Regional Tournament in Metairie.

Concordia finished second in district in Mangham to advance to the regional tournament.

"We had a great run," said Concordia coach Whest Shirley. "You'll be reading about these young men some more in the future. They can play on the same level with anybody their age in the state."

Concordia started off the tournament with a 2-1 win over Ville Platte on Friday.

Concordia scored both of its runs in the fourth inning. Chandler Grayson led off with a double, but was thrown out at home on a double by Cole Cangemi. Kade Passman singled and Pate Shirley followed with a single.

Passman pitched two innings, while Cangemi pitched the final four innings.

Concordia fell to Wally Pontiff 8-2 in their second game on Saturday.

Concordia trailed 1-0 in the fifth inning.

"The wheels fell off after that," Shirley said. "We had some errors and you just can't have that at this level."

Concordia bounced back with a 12-2 win over Minden.

Grayson pitched five innings, while Jake Barlow got the save.

Cangemi collected four singles in the contest, while Tyler Cothern had three singles.

Shirley doubled twice and walked twice.

Drake Bergeron hit a home run in the first inning.

Concordia fell to Girard 11-8 Monday night in an elimination game.

Girard, which is a team near New Orleans, scored five runs in the fifth inning.

Concordia came back with three runs in the top of the sixth inning.Jake Barlow and Jake Cooper each had home runs for Concordia,

Cooper and Bergeron both doubled, while Barlow added a single.

Shirley added two singles and a walk.
