Ferriday receives Walmart check The Town of Ferriday has received its third annual check from Walmart -- this one totaling $240,000 -- according to Mayor Glen McGlothin.
The allocation is designed to help the town offset losses in sales taxes after Walmart shut down its Ferriday operation. The company built a new facility in Vidalia in 2006.
"We received the check and a very nice note and we are very appreciative," said Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin.
When Walmart opened its store in Vidalia, it agreed to pay Ferriday $300,000 for 10 years. Walmart later said the payments will decrease by 10 percent over the 10-year period.
