Scouting drive underway in Concordia
The Boy Scouts of America Louisiana Purchase Council will hold a recruiting drive September 2 with hopes of reviving scouting in Concordia Parish.
"This is the largest recruiting drive in the history of our council," said David McGuirt, District Executive for the Louisiana Purchase Council. "We will have volunteers set up at about 140 schools in 20 parishes across Central and Northeast Louisiana. This fall could change the life of a lot of young men."
McGuirt said he is looking for more volunteers in the parish.
"Last year in Concordia Parish we had a Cub Scout pack register at Sevier Methodist and meet a few times, but due to nobody stepping up to volunteer in the pack leadership positions, it never got off the ground," McGuirt said. "Ray Varnado, the pastor at Sevier Methodist in Ferriday and Vidalia Methodist in Vidalia has agreed to sign on Vidalia Methodist as the Charter Organization for a new pack. We will be signing kids up at Ferriday Lower and Vidalia Lower Elementary schools for this new pack and while we have some volunteers in place to work these schools, we could always use a few extra hands."
The Boys Scouts is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
