As of Sunday, August 15, any driver seen texting while driving can be stopped and ticketed by law enforcement officials, reminds Sheriff Randy Maxwell. The same goes for teenagers 17 or younger who are seen using a cell phone while driving.

Senate Bill 9 by Sen. Butch Gautreaux, D-Morgan City regarding texting and cell phone use was signed into law by Gov. Bobby Jindal in June.
