Heavy rains halt parish harvest

A tropical depression dumped more than five inches of rain on Concordia Parish through 9 a.m. Wednesday morning and put a halt to harvest operations.

County Agent Glen Daniels said the heavy rainfall shouldn't hurt crops ready for harvest if the weather system "moves on out of here. We'll be alright if it does."

Daniels said Concordia farmers are making headway with the summer grain harvest and yields overall are not bad.

Daniels said Tuesday that about 65 percent of both the corn and milo crops have been harvested.
