Cathedral visits CPS Cathedral High visits Central Private School in Baker Friday in the Green Wave's first meeting with a Mississippi Association of Independent Schools team. "They are a well-coached football team," said first-year CHS head coach Ron Rushing. "They are not real flashy on offense. They run a lot of leads, traps and sweeps and try to win on defense. They'll bring five or six on every snap. They are not real big, but they will get after you." The contest came about after Central Private was left with an open date following the closing of Huntington School. The Rebels were scheduled to open against the Hounds. Last Friday, Rushing looked up towards the skies early and worried that his school's first jamboree would turn out to be a nightmare as rains flooded the area. But by the afternoon, the skies cleared and D'Everaux Stadium was packed out as the Green Wave defeated Wilkinson County Chrisitan Academy 22-6 in the final game of the night. Cathedral scored on its opening drive when Brent Gaudé connected on a 27-yard field goal. Cathedral added to its lead as JaDarius Ealey scored on a 1-yard run. The third score of the night came on a 65-yard run by tailback Daniel Huffines. Reserves accounted for the final score as Thomas Garrity passed nine yards to Khalil Brice. "I was pleased," Rushing said. "We played a bunch of people. There were 10 or 12 players I had questions about, but they really showed up well."
