Rushing takes over at Cathedral
by Jake Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Ron Rushing will take the reins as head coach for the Cathedral Green Wave as he looks for a successful first season with the Green Wave.

Cathedral made the playoffs, in 2009 but lost in the first round against Weir.

"We've only got one sophomore, so it's an older group with some experience," Rushing said. "Our offensive line is going to be better than last year just because of that experience."

The Green Wave have five returning starters on offense along with seven on defense.

Starting at quaterback for the Green Wave this season will be junior Caleb Upton (5'10, 175).

Joining Upton in the backfield will be senior Semmes White (5'10. 175) along with juniors Jadarius Ealy (5'9, 170) and Daniel Huffines (5'8, 165).

Starting at the receiver position is junior Carl Hammitte (6'1, 170), while junior Tyler Fleming (6'0, 220) will get the nod at tight end.

The Green Wave have three seniors starting on the line along with a junior and a sophomore.

Starting at center for the Green Wave is senior Will Jones (5'10, 150), while senior Adam Kaiser (6'1, 195) starts at right guard and senior Tyler Jordan (6'4, 250) starts at left tackle.

Junior Josh Callaway (6'2, 255) will occupy right tackle, and sophomore Dakota Vaughn (6'0, 220) will start at left guard.

"I really feel like we will be able to run the football," Rushing said.

Punting for the Green Wave this season will be senior Brent Gaude (6'1, 145).

Cathedral's defense returns most of their starters and has experience upfront.

Starting at defensive end for the Green Wave is senior Matthew Golden (6'7, 235) and junior MacAurthur Doss (6'1, 190).

Clogging up the middle this season will be Jordan and Callaway.

Fleming, Kaiser and Ealy will make up Cathedral's linebacker core.

Starting in the secondary for the Green Wave is senior Luke Whitaker (6'0, 165), sophomore Kyle Bradley (5'8, 160), Huffines and White.

"Our defense should be better this year," Rushing said. "I really feel good about our team. We just can't shoot ourselves in the foot and stay healthy. We're watching a lot more film this year, so hopefully the team will focus and take a lot from it."
