Story Archives: Tensas Parish under new coach

Tensas Parish under new coach
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
With only 15 players, Tensas Parish High School head coach Rex McCarthy knows the key to his season.

"We definitely have to stay healthy," McCarthy said.

McCarthy is in his first head coaching varsity job.

He replaces Gerald Reeves, who resigned earlier this month after accepting a job at Baskin Middle School.

Reeve's son plays football at West Monroe High and he wanted more time to see him play.

McCarthy starts seventh-grader Arthur Gray at quarterback.

Junior Tony Brown is back-up quarterback.

Curtis Darden anchors the defense at cornerback.

Senior Alex Ward holds down the offensive line.

"Alex is an exceptional player and we have to get everything we can out of him," McCarthy said.

Tensas Parish won one game last year.

"We've changed a lot of things," McCarthy said. "We need the kids to come together as a unit. We have to take it one at a time and leran to play together."
