Story Archives: Tensas opens with win

Tensas opens with win
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Tensas Academy opened its season with an impessive 44-8 win over defending 8-man football state champion Calvary Friday at Tensas.

"That felt good after having them beat us last year," said Tensas coach Joe Coats, whose team has lost to Calvary in the state finals the last two years.

Coats said defense was the key to the win over the defending champs.

"You don't want to waste any possessions and you have to get some stops in this league," Coats said.

Tensas faces Franklin Friday.

"They have a big time and they played Central real well," Coats said. "It was close for a while. They play smash-mouth football and we are going to have to be ready."
