Story Archives: Gautreaux campaigns for lieutenant governor

Gautreaux campaigns for lieutenant governor
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Sentinel Writer Sen. Butch Gautreaux, D-Morgan City says he knows the problems of rural Louisiana having grown up on the coast of Louisiana in St. Mary parish.

That's why he made a point of visiting Vidalia Friday in his bid to become the next Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana.

The state's No. 2 elected position, which is being filled on an interim basis by Scott Angelle, opened up this spring when Mitch Landrieu resigned to become mayor of New Orleans.

"Mitch and I are good friends, but he put more emphasis on New Orleans than any other place," Gautreaux said at a public meet and greet at the Bryant O. Hammett Vidalia Conference and Convention Center. "The Lieutenant Governor's Office has neglected rural parts of the state."

Gautreaux promised, if elected, he and his staff will visit Concordia Parish to find out what needs his attention.

"I think it's really important the Lieutenant Governor visit rural Louisiana, especially during these times," Gautreaux said. "This is a very special place and has great potential for tourism. We need to make people aware of what's here."
