The Concordia Parish airport has been awarded a $228,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration for the purchase and installation of a new 8-ft. perimeter security fence around airport property, according to Carl Sayers, chairman of the Concordia Airport Authority Board of Directors.

Sayers said the grant will be matched by five percent funding from the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development resulting "in absolutely no cost to the citizens of Concordia Parish."

He said the new fencing will provide airport property security and prevent unauthorized access while it will also provide protection from wildlife entering the property which could pose a safety threat to aircraft operations.

Sayers said the grant was based upon the receipt of five bids on August 11, 2010 with the low bidder being Petron, LLC in the amount of $199,336. He said Petron, LLC is "a Louisiana based experienced contractor out of Alexandria and is being awarded the contract with work expected to commence within the month."
