Judge to rule next week on Higginbotham motion Judge Michael Lancaster will rule next week on whether former Waterproof Mayor Bobby Higginbotham should be granted a new trial.
The motion, in which Higginbotham cites numerous grounds for a new trial, alleges that the jury's verdict last spring convicting him for malfeasance and felony theft was "contrary to law and evidence."
Lancaster will hear that motion on Sept. 17 in Sixth Judicial District Court in Tensas Parish.
Higginbotham was convicted on May 19 by a six-person jury. He faces a maximum of five years on the charge of malfeasance in office and a maximum of 10 years for felony theft.
