A public hearing held Tuesday night on the $6.9 million loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to build a new municipal complex on the west side of Vidalia opened and closed without any public comment.

No residents attended the hearing required by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for all loans the agency makes.

Bids will be advertised and let this month according to Mayor Hyram Copeland. Construction should begin by late October.

The municipal complex, which will include a town hall, fire station and police station, will also include a city park, two high school ballparks, a walking trail, a 2,500-sq. ft. community center and other features.

The municipal complex will sit on 32 acres and be adjacent to the 50-acre Vidalia Recreation Complex to be constructed by Concordia Recreation District No. 3.
