Trinity remains unbeaten Trinity Episcopal picked up another quality win as the Saints defeated Centreville 24-13 in Natchez Friday.
"I think we grew as a team with that win," said Trinity coach David King.
The Saints were slowed by a torrential pregame downpour that cut down on their speed.
"But we got the big plays when we needed them," King said.
Trinity scored first as Kent King went in from one yards out to give the Saints an 8-0 lead following a conversion pass from Giovanni Dent to Jake Winston.
Leading 8-7, Dent passed 11 yards to Tip McKenzie and Daniel Dunaway ran in the conversion as the Saints went into halftime with a 16-7 advantage.
Clinging to a 16-13 lead, Trinity's defense forced Centreville to punt from its own 1-yard line and McKenzie took the kick at the Tiger at the Tiger 36 and returned it all the way from the score. Dent hit Tanner Cage on the conversion.
Trinity plays at Alpha Christian Friday before hosting Porter's Chapel on Sept. 17.
"We need to go in focused again and take care of our business," King said. "They are a very athletic team. We just want to keep getting better." |
